Alberta’s Renewable Energy Plan

News / Solar Energy / Wind Energy

¬†Medicine Hat is¬†in the middle of Canada’s best solar and wind resources, making it a natural fit for companies looking to capitalize on Alberta’s renewable energy ambitions.

The Government of Alberta continues to make progress on its renewable energy ambitions, most recently announcing a competition in early 2017 for investors to provide 400 megawatts of renewable energy for 20 years.

The timeline laid out suggests that the winning bid from that competition could be online as soon as 2019.

For Southeast Alberta, the news could move proposed projects into the development phase, providing significant opportunity for the city’s tradespeople as well as outside operations and maintenance companies looking to move into the province.

Southeast Alberta is currently home to 3,000 megawatts of proposed solar and wind energy projects, and is in the middle of Canada’s best solar and wind resource.
