South Country Co-op recently opened their new 19,000 square foot headquarters in Medicine Hat with growth in mind. The $3 million renovation converted the company’s agriculture centre, which had been vacant since 2015, and brought all management and administration staff under one roof for the first time.
The move is part of South Country Co-op’s growth strategy and streamlines the process of managing all 50 Southern Alberta locations scattered throughout 19 communities.
“The new headquarters was designed to accommodate our growth into the future,” says Paul Haynes, operations manager of South Country Co-op’s consumer products. “We are well set up with 20% of the space set aside for new growth.”
Speaking of growth, South Country Co-op has partnered with Canalta Hotels to develop a 3.6 acre site in Medicine Hat’s Southlands commercial node. The $10 million development will accompany Canalta’s newest Medicine Hat hotel. Haynes also points to Lethbridge as an untapped market for South Country Co-op.
The Southlands development is part of Medicine Hat’s multi-million dollar construction boom.
“South Country Co-op is a fast-growing business and we will be here for years to come,” says Haynes.
The 19,000 square foot building has 30 offices, 26 cubicles and six meeting spaces to accommodate and train new staff. Human resources are recruiting an office manager, skilled maintenance staff and administrators.
“Medicine Hat is seeing investment in the form of new developments in nearly every corner of the city,” says Ryan Jackson, Invest Medicine Hat CEO. “The city has the skilled trades to take on these new projects and the workforce to fill new professional positions.”
As South Country Co-op continues pursuing growth opportunities, their new Medicine Hat-based headquarters is ready to accommodate the new jobs required to ensure everything runs smoothly.
