Based in Medicine Hat, Luke Fandrich has made a career of travelling North America with his camera. His photography graces billboards and postcards across the continent and has reached more than 40 million people through his website.
Fandrich is one of a number of Medicine Hat-based photographers and graphic designers who are gaining attention and clients across Western Canada and internationally.
“Because technology is so accessible, I can easily upload my work to Instagram and YouTube and reach anyone in the world,” says Fandrich. “I don’t have to be in Vancouver to reach a wide audience.”
Fandrich’s multimedia production company, Editing Luke, licenses photos and produces video for tourism organizations and other clients across Canada and the United States. He launched his business in 2014 after building up an extensive photo library and an Instagram following of more than 11, 000 users. The social media platform has been instrumental in growing his client list, which currently reaches into California, Oregon and Hawaii, and home-grown contacts in Alberta.
In addition to photo licensing and media production, Fandrich has turned his Instagram page into work with the growing world of influencer marketing. Influencer marketing is a growing segment of the broader marketing mix, and relies on influential social media accounts who can positively influence buying decisions. In fact, 84% of marketers plan to execute as least one influencer marketing campaign in 2017, according to a survey by Forbes.
“I’ve been in the driver’s seat of my career ever since I’ve graduated film school,” says Fandrich. “That’s why it’s been so great to be in Medicine Hat.”
By building an enormous photo library and Instagram following, Fandrich is indeed leading the direction of his career.
