In order to meet council priorities, land no longer needed by the City is going to market to support a long-term vision of including more infill developments in existing areas of Medicine Hat.
So far in 2018, two medium density residential and mixed-use zoned properties in established neighbourhoods are available to purchase via expressions of interest.
104 20th Street NE is a prime location in Crescent Heights, one of Medicine Hat’s established residential areas. Ideally suited for multi-family units, such as row housing or walk-up style apartments, the 0.543 hectare property is walking distance to the Family Leisure Centre, Heritage Trail System, Crescent Heights High School, grocery stores and is close to places of work in Brier Park Estates.
“It offers a convenient location for residents to live, work and play,” says Jane Zwicker, sales and marketing officer at the City of Medicine Hat’s Business Support Office. “Walking distance to leisure, retail and educational amenities and close proximity to places of work makes this a unique property.”
The second property for sale, 820-844 12 Street SE, is located the high traffic, South Flats area. Overlooking the corner of Allowance Avenue and 12th Street SE, the 1,684 m2 property is on a major connection between the north and south ends of the city. The street has an annual daily traffic volume of 16,150 vehicles and is en route to major hubs including Medicine Hat College and the Downtown commercial node. The property is ideally suited to commercial or mixed-use infill building in a mixed-use neighbourhood.
Expressions of interest for 104 20th Street SE and 820-844 12th Street SE close on Nov. 23, 2018.
However, the City continues to accept inquiries on their vacant properties throughout the year. Interested parties are encouraged to submit letters of intent to the Land and Business Support Office at City Hall.
