Kelowna-based Braemar Group is building Medicine Hat’s first Marriott.
The 110-room Marriott TownePlace Suites is an extended stay hotel, offering travellers in-suite kitchens, grills, fitness facilities, a pool and on-site laundry.
“The Marriott is the first hotel you see when driving into Medicine Hat and the building works effectively like a billboard,” says Braemar Group’s director of operations Lloyd Daser. “It’s a fabulous location, with the added bonus of being walking distance to many kinds of services.”
The hotel site is located just off of the Trans-Canada Highway, in Medicine Hat’s south commercial node, a major retail and hospitality area. Anchor tenants include Walmart and Home Depot, with a Save-On Foods, Brown’s Social House and more new shops currently under construction.
In recent years, the Southlands location caught the attention of other hotel developers including the Canalta Group and Sun City Hotels. Both have broken ground on greenfield developments, looking to serve a catchment area of approximately 140,000 people in Southeast Alberta and Southwest Saskatchewan.
Situated along major transportation arteries, Southlands sees traffic counts of over 42,000 vehicles per day from the Trans-Canada Highway, Dunmore Road and Strachan Road.
The Braemar Group expects to open the TownePlace Suites in the middle of 2019.
