Brost Developments’ contemporary neighbourhood, The Mill, is under construction

August 2, 2018

One of Medicine Hat’s newest residential developments is taking shape. Brost Developments broke ground on The Mill last spring. The design has since caught the attention of home buyers across generations.

“These homes function well for homeowners who have a busy lifestyle or like to travel,” says Sherry Brost, business manager at Brost Developments. “Located in Medicine Hat’s busy south end, the neighbourhood is well connected to the trail systems and parks, retail and schools.”

The 2,000 square foot homes typically feature a rear garage, landscaped front yard and a courtyard with privacy fencing. Inside, flex rooms and lofts create versatile spaces, while large windows let in lots of natural light.

Each new home in The Mill is built to Alberta’s new energy efficient building code, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Energuide rating of The Mill’s first home, a Monarch style floorplan, is 85 GJ per year, coming in well below the average Energuide rating of 141 GJ per year.

The Mill is a welcome addition to the City’s bustling south end, currently witnessing a residential and commercial building boom. Projects announced and underway include Seymour Pacific Developments 143-unit apartment complex in Southlands, phase four of Landsdowne Developments Hamptons neighbourhood, and Brentwood Development’s Strachan Corner commercial complex.

Residential and commercial development is in addition to major industrial projects not seen in Medicine Hat in a generation. These include Hut 8’s $100-million data centre, now operational, and Aurora Sun, the world’s largest cannabis production facility, currently under construction.

“Medicine Hat is firing on all cylinders,” says Ryan Jackson, CEO, Invest Medicine Hat. “We believe that up to 750 new jobs will be created in the coming years.”

Medicine Hat is a community of 63,260 residents located in the southeast corner of Alberta. It has the lowest combined tax rate in Canada, the lowest utility rates in Alberta, and an enviable climate with hot, dry summers and short, mild winters.
