Looking for a unique outdoor experience this summer? Look no further. Local entrepreneurs, Darren Howes and Josh Hopkins, have been hard-at-work constructing a family-friendly, outdoor patio between two heritage buildings downtown Medicine Hat.
“On a visit to Philadelphia a few years back, I noticed a trend with outdoor, seasonal patios in between buildings rather than on the street. It creates more of a backyard, garden-type feel,” said Howes. “Our downtown has some incredible architecture and history; I just knew this concept would be embraced in Medicine Hat.”
The Yard is focused on supporting and incorporating local businesses as much as possible. Everything from local brew, local spirits, local music and local food will be available for guests to enjoy.
The Yard will offer a small selection of bite-sized eats and will also welcome guests to bring their lunch, dinner, and everything in between, to enjoy in the heart of downtown. Meals from surrounding local restaurants and from the food trucks in the alley behind the patio are encouraged.
A variety of local canned brew and carefully crafted cocktails will be available and some of the beverages will even include ingredients from the Olive Tap. Located at 619, 3rd Street, downtown Medicine Hat, guests will enjoy true patio comfort with picnic benches, a variety of couch seating, custom built washrooms, and ambient lighting.
“We want people to feel like they are in their own backyard. A casual vibe with great music and great cocktails. That’s how the name, The Yard, was born,” said Hopkins.
